Capai Progres 90 Percent, National Strategy Road In West Papua Will Ready In Early 2024

MANOKWARI - The National Road Implementation Center (BPJN) for the XVII West Papua Region of the Ministry of PUPR targets the completion of the national strategic road settlement in West Papua in early 2024

Head of BPJN West Papua, Mauluddin Said Background, said that all work packages on the national strategic road are targeted to be completed before President Joko Widodo's term of office ends.

"The construction budget is at the end of 2023, at least the first quarter of 2024, the occupancy of the trans-national road segment has reached 90 percent, because it will be the final report of the President's term of office," said Mauluddin, quoted by Antara, Sunday, September 25.

Until now, the progress of road construction in West Papua is 86 percent, because there are several road sections that are still heavily and lightly damaged.

Several roads are currently in the asphalting process, including the Manokwari-Bintuni, Bintuni-Wondama, and Wondama-Nabire roads.

"Some of the national roads are still in the land that we categorize as heavily damaged or not in stable condition, we will push for our roads that are still in soil conditions," he explained.

Several roads whose progress has not been significant, said Mauluddin, are caused by several factors, including the weather in the area.

In addition, misunderstandings with the community around the location of road construction that must be resolved with a social approach.

"Our weather often rains and asphalting is not allowed to paving before or after it rains," he said.

The Head of BPJN also said that the scarcity and increase in fuel prices affected road work.

"The initial calculation is with details of the fuel price before there is an increase so that it is very influential, but whatever it is, our work must be completed according to the specified schedule," he said.

The road with national and national strategic status in West Papua Province is 40 segments with a total length of 1,326 kilometers.
