JAKARTA - PT Astra Internasional Tbk (ASII) through PT Sedaya Multi Investama (SMI) has purchased 49.56 percent of PT Bank Jasa Jakarta (BJJ) shares.

Later Astra will transform Bank Jasa Jakarta (BJJ) into a digital bank with a focus on the retail segment and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Director of Astra International Suparno Djasmin revealed that later SMI will take part in the top 1.14 million new shares of all issued and paid-up capital in PT BJJ with a transaction value of Rp3.88 trillion.

"BJJ, whose concentration is currently on the retail and SME segments, will also become a digital bank with a business focus on retail and SMEs," said Suparno Djasmin at a press conference in Jakarta, Thursday, September 22.

He added that the two segments are a fairly large segment and will certainly grow along with Indonesia's economic growth.

Suparno said, Astra will also connect BJJ into the Astra Financial and Astra ecosystems, then it will be connected to other ecosystems that will be brought by BJJ or WeLab Sky.

Astra itself plans to transform BJJ into a digital bank and this of course takes time to prepare.

"In less than a year, we plan to be able to start introducing digital platforms and services to BJJ customers," said Suparno Djasmin.

Furthermore, Suparno added, there are still 77 percent of Indonesian people who have not been accessed by banking financial services so that the retail and MSME segments become potential in line with Indonesia's economic growth.

"There are still many people who are unbanked 77 percent. This is a fairly large segment, of course, it will grow in line with the Indonesian economy," he added.
