JAKARTA Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani is known to have just met with Australian Finance Minister Jim Chalers in Canberra. During the meeting, various strategic steps were discussed regarding strengthening relations between the two countries.

Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani explained that Australia is Indonesia's 15th largest investor country. In addition, Australia is also the 14th largest export destination and the 7th largest import origin country for Indonesia.

Of course, bilateral and economic cooperation is very important to maintain. For this reason, on Monday this week I met with Treasury @ausgov, Jim Chalmers to conduct Economic Policy Dialogue (EPD) in Canberra and update bilateral cooperation between the Ministry of Finance and the Australian Treasury," he said in a written statement on Wednesday, September 21.

According to the Minister of Finance, the EPD aims to discuss international, regional and bilateral issues that are of common interest between the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia and the Ministry of Finance of Australia.

It was revealed that so far the economic cooperation of the two was realized in the financial and fiscal sector reform cooperation, one of which was carried out through the Prospera.

"In this case, we agree that reforms in these two fields must continue to be monitored amid all global uncertainties," he said.

The Minister of Finance added that the reform coverage in question is macroeconomic, financial sector, pension funds, transfers to regions and also a fair and sustainable energy transition.

"Through the EPD, I hope that both Indonesia and Australia can get mutual benefits in the form of exchange of perspectives and information so that the reform coverage area can continue to be accelerated for the better for both countries," he said.

Furthermore, the state treasurer also expressed his gratitude to the Australian Government for its commitment to support Indonesia ahead of the G20 Summit (KTT) which will be held in November. Meanwhile, the three main agendas of the meeting were pandemic preparedness, the digital economy, and also the energy transition.

"I hope Australia will also continue to provide support and input in the chairmanship of ASEAN Indonesia in 2023. Australia will remain one of Indonesia's main partners in facing various economic challenges both regional and global," closed the Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani.
