JAKARTA - PT Perusahaan Pengelola Asset (PPA) encourages PT Barata Indonesia (Persero) to be an important part of meeting the needs of the components of the electric transportation industry (EV). This support is based on the work of Barata Indonesia which has become part of the global supply chain with the export reach of vehicle components to more than 20 countries in the world.

Deputy Minister of SOEs II Kartika Wirjoatmodjo said that Barata Indonesia's readiness is expected to be a catalyst for the revival of the national manufacturing industry and support the provision of EV-based transportation modes in Indonesia. "This is also in line with the aspirations of the Minister of SOEs to encourage the acceleration of the battery-based electric motor vehicle program as the main means of transportation," Kartika said in a written statement, Friday, September 16.

Barata Indonesia collaborates with PT Industri Kereta Api (Persero) (INKA) and PT VKTR Teknologi Mobility (VKTR) to develop and produce components needed by E-Inobus electric buses such as steering, suspension, and axle.

The signing of the Priority Agreement (Heads of Agreements/HoA) was carried out by the Director of Marketing Barata Indonesia Sulistyo Handoko, Finance Director of PT INKA Andy Budiman, and President Director of PT VKTR Teknologo Mobility W Setijono yesterday, September 15 in Gresik, Central Java. The signing was witnessed directly by the Deputy Minister of SOEs II Kartika Wirjoatmodjo and PPA President Director Yadi Jaya Ruchandi.

"The signing of HoA between Barata Indonesia and PT INKA and PT VKTR is a progressive step to create an electric-based transportation ecosystem by combining competencies and resources owned by each party," added Yadi.

PPA as mandated through the Special Power of the Minister of SOEs encourages Barata Indonesia to refocus business models, optimize production facilities, and be more sustainable projects. One of them is the development of electric vehicle components that are synergized with BUMN and local players.

Barata Indonesia's collaboration with PT INKA and PT VKTR through HoA includes four main focuses, namely research collaboration & development, manufacturing and the design of mechanical components, conversion of fossil fuels into electric power, and a sustainable ecosystem.

The synergy of these three companies is part of accelerating the production of 53 units of E-Inobus electric buses which will be used at the 2022 G20 Bali Summit, and after that will be operated as public transportation in Bandung and Surabaya. Currently, PT INKA has obtained a Type Test Certificate (SUT) from the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) for E-Inobus electric buses.

"As a strategic instrument of the government in optimizing the value of the BUMN ecosystem, PPA supports the synergy between Barata Indonesia and PT INKA and PT VKTR in the context of providing EV-based transportation modes in Indonesia," said Yadi.

The support of EV components from Barata Indonesia is expected to increase the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) by up to 80 percent and absorb local workers. For this reason, PPA also asks for support from all stakeholders so that Indonesian SOEs can make a significant contribution in supporting the use of environmentally friendly means of transportation.
