Increased Interests, Sales Of Electric Vehicles In The Country Moving

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry through the Directorate General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment and Electronics (ILMATE) revealed that currently the trend of ownership of domestic electric vehicles is growing. One of them can be seen from the volume of sales of electric vehicles that soared in the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) in Jakarta.

The Director General of ILMATE at the Ministry of Industry, Taufiek Bawazier, said that the trend of ownership of electric vehicles can also reduce fuel consumption and diversify energy.

The magnitude of the public interest can be seen from the sale of 1,594 units of xEV vehicles, with details of 1,274 units of BEV/KBLBB and 320 units of hybrid vehicles. This sale is much larger than EV sales during the one year period in 2021.

Taufiek said, sales of electric vehicles have contributed 5.97 percent of the total units sold at the GIIAS event in Jakarta 2022. The total number of vehicles sold was 26,658 units.

Furthermore, he said the GIIAS exhibition would directly be a lever of productivity factors as well as proof that the automotive industry, which is used as a mainstay sector, could make a real contribution to Indonesia's economic growth.

"Increasing public interest in low-emission vehicles can also reduce fuel consumption and diversify energy. So that it can reduce Indonesia's dependence on global oil prices," he said in an official statement quoted on Thursday, September 15.

Currently, GIIAS is present in Surabaya until September 18, 2022. Taufiek hopes that the implementation of the 2022 GIIAS can encourage the achievement of green mobility in the Indonesian automotive industry

"Green mobility is a heavy point of manufacturing to produce vehicles that are environmentally friendly with various technological advances, so the automotive sector can support the carbonneutral target in 2060," he said.

Taufiek said the automotive industry is a major contributor to the transportation equipment industry sector. Currently, it has a total of 21 four-wheeled motor vehicle industry companies.

"The four-wheeled motor vehicle industry has a total investment of IDR 139.37 trillion, and production capacity of 2.35 million units per year," said Taufiek.

Furthermore, he said that the automotive industry absorbs 38 thousand direct workers, and more than 1.5 million people who work along the automotive supply chain from tier-1 to tier-3. "This sector is also able to provide significant foreign exchange through its export achievements," he said.
