JAKARTA - Direktur Utama Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC) Toto Nugroho mengungkapkan, dalam rangka membentuk pabrik baterai mobil, Indonesia akan melakukan akuisisi mine di luar negeri.

This acquisition is carried out because two components of electric vehicle battery raw materials such as lithium and graphics do not exist in Indonesia.

"Indonesia is rich in nickel, but there are two main components that we must import. The first is lithium, the second is that there is a battery for the anode," he said at a Hearing Meeting with Commission VI of the DPR RI, Monday, September 12.

By doing an acuis, later IBC will reduce lithium and graphic dependence.

The countries with many lithium content are Australia, South America, and Africa.

In the future, continued Toto, IBC wants to develop battery technology that does not depend on imported materials and his party is doing research.

Toto detailed that the material component of lithium for raw materials for electric vehicle batteries is 10 percent, cobalt or manganese is around 10 percent and the remaining 80 percent is nickel.

"The closest Lithium is in Australia, then America in Bolivia and Africa," he said.

Furthermore, he added, from the mapping carried out by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) there is no significant lithium content in Indonesia.

However, IBC is also reviewing the lithium content carried away from the remnants of the electricity production process at geothermal plants.

"From geothermal there is potential, we will study first," he added.

The battery production capacity in 2024 will reach 10 Giga Watt hour (GWh) which is believed to be able to generate electricity supply for 100,000 electric cars and four million electric motorcycles.
