Support For Energy Transition, Chairman Of Commission VII Of The DPR Suggested That The Government Give A High RON Fuel Subsidy

JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission VII DPR RI Sugeng Suparwoto gave the government the option to start providing subsidies for fuel oil (BBM) with a high Research Octane Number (RON).

This follows the government's move to reduce carbon emissions and start using clean energy.

Sugeng said that currently the government has a basis for the Implementation of Euro 4 Standard Fuel as stated in the Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry (Permen LHK) Number 20 of 2017.

Thus, continued Sugeng, the fuel sold must have a gasoline specification with a high octane value, namely RON 95-98 or the equivalent of Pertamax Turbo sold by PT Pertamina (Persero).

"The 2017 environmental regulation has formulated that the lowest RON has been regulated, even ideally, in the future, only the type of fuel in addition to biosolars, one fuel that is getting higher and the iron is getting better and that is what is subsidized," he said in a virtual discussion in Jakarta, Monday, September 12.

Thus, continued Sugeng, people can obtain fuel that is environmentally friendly and in accordance with the people's purchasing power because it has been subsidies by the government.

Previously, the Director of Oil and Gas Downstream Business Development at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Soerjaningsih, confirmed the news that the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) would prohibit the sale of low octane fuel from December 31, 2022.

Until now, only Vivo gas stations still sell RON 89 fuel. However, PT Vivo Energy Indonesia announced that starting in 2023 it will no longer sell Revvo 89 fuel oil (BBM).

For this reason, the company will spend the current supply of Revvo 89.

In an official statement, the management wrote, to comply with government policies, Vivo Energy Indonesia has taken the necessary steps to clear Revvo's supplies 89 by the end of this year.

"The government has decided to remove sales of low-octane fuel on December 31, 2022," Vivo management wrote in an official statement quoted on Tuesday, September 6.
