Bank Mandiri Holds Sustainable Energy Workshops For The Strengthening Of The Green Financing Ecosystem

JAKARTA PT Bank Mandiri Tbk. is said to be holding a workshop titled Shaping Roadmap to be Prefered Bank in Renewable Energy on September 6-7, 2022 to capture the potential of large renewable energy resources.

Bank Mandiri Deputy President Director Alexandra Askandar said this step was in line with efforts to build sustainable development.

According to Alexandra, the company supports the government in achieving Net Zero Emission (NZE) commitments by 2060 or sooner.

"Bank Mandiri's position is reflected in the 20.7 percent portion of total green loans in Indonesia," he said in a written statement on Tuesday, September 6.

Alexandra added that this workshop itself is a place of aspiration for stakeholders, regulators, industry players to jointly explore potential in terms of sustainable energy that is in line with the national agenda.

"Indonesia's commitment to supporting the green economy continues to increase significantly as evidence of the seriousness of the industry and the government. This can be seen from the total national green financing at the end of 2021 of IDR 466 trillion or 8 percent of total loans in the country," he said.

Furthermore, until the second quarter of 2022, Bank Mandiri has distributed sustainable financing of IDR 226 trillion or around 25 percent of the total, including financing for the renewable energy sector, sustainable SDA management, and environmentally friendly transportation.

Not only in terms of credit, Alexandra explained that Bank Mandiri has developed a series of sustainable products such as sustainable bonds of US$300 million, ESG repo of US$500 million, as well as retail consumer loans for purchases of electric cars and solar panels.

"To accelerate Low carbon investment, we will continue to innovate to develop various sustainable products according to best practices such as the sustainability linked loan including to the renewable energy sector," concluded Alexandra.
