Pertamina NRE Gandeng Pondera Kaji Integrated Facilities Of PLTB And Green Hydrogen

JAKARTA - Pertamina Power Indonesia (Pertamina NRE) and Pondera Development BV (Pondera) signed a joint study agreement (JSA) on the development of a Bayu power plant (PLTB) off the coast which is integrated with green hydrogen production facilities.

The signing was carried out by Pertamina NRE's Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dannif Danusaputro and Eric Arends as the Vice Chairman of the Pondera Group, and witnessed by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Arifin Tasrif and Pertamina's President Director, Nicke Widyawati. This collaboration is a follow-up to the memorandum of understanding signed by both parties on April 21, 2022.

In his remarks, Arifin said he was happy with the partnership and collaboration formed under the umbrella of the B20 international meeting. He said the challenges with the application of low-carbon technology must be handled together between developed and developing countries.

Pertamina President Director Nicke Widyawati on the same occasion said that Pertamina NRE's collaboration with Pondera is very strategic because it not only provides value for Pertamina NRE or Pondera, but also for Indonesia to explore the potential of wind energy that has not been utilized enough.

"Not only that, this PLTB project will also be studied by the development of green hydrogen production facilities. This means that this project has enormous potential for the development of renewable energy in Indonesia," he said in an official statement, Sabu September 3.

Eric Arends as the Vice Chairman of the Pondera Group said, as a consultant and global renewable energy developer, Pondera has a wealth of experience in developing wind energy projects on land (onshore) as well as offshore (offshore) in Europe and Asia. The experience of this Dutch company includes wind measurement, feasibility study, wind modeling, PLTB engineering, and construction management. To date, Pondera has handled wind energy projects of more than 12 GWs in various countries.

Indonesia has an ambitious target for the development of renewable energy, and we recognize Pertamina's key role in achieving these targets. To achieve this target, all renewable energy sources must be utilized, including wind energy on land and off-shore that is promising. Developing offshore wind fields on a large scale with green hydrogen as the energy carrier requires careful and comprehensive study of its economic eligibility, taking into account local conditions into account. We are happy and looking forward to cooperation with Pertamina NRE in this project," Eric said.

Just so you know, Indonesia has considerable wind energy potential. From the results of a study by the Research and Development Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (KESDM), there are several locations in Indonesia that have the potential for the development of PLTB, including the southern coast of Java, South Sulawesi, Maluku, and NTT, with an average wind speed of 8 m/s. occurred in the period of June, July, and August.

Currently, PLTB which has operated in Indonesia is in Sidrap with 75 MW and 60 MW in Jeneponto. Both are in South Sulawesi Province. Based on the National Energy Bauran (BEN), PLTB is targeted to reach 255 MW by 2025. With this strategic cooperation initiative, Pertamina NRE has the opportunity to contribute to the achievement of the target of BEN of the Government of Indonesia.
