JAKARTA - Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani explained that Indonesia is currently facing new problems over the sustainability of food security for the 2023 period. The reason is, the territory of Indonesia has the potential to be exposed to the La Nina and El Nino weather phenomena next year.

Sri Mulyani said this was inversely proportional to the recent few years when weather conditions greatly supported the agricultural sector. As a result, Indonesia tends to be able to maintain food security at a safe level.

"Next year, there are estimates about the weather that La Nina and El Nino will occur. This phenomenon must be taken into consideration and we also need to see in terms of the cycle of increasing agricultural productivity," he said while attending a meeting with Commission XI of the DPR at the Senayan Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Wednesday, August 31.

According to Sri Mulyani, the government has actually implemented a number of policies to support the national food sector.
