The Highest Egg Price In The Last 5 Years, Market Traders Ask The Trade Minister To Find A Solution

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Market Traders Association (IKAPPI) regrets the statement from the Minister of Trade (Mendag) Zulkifli Hasan or Zulhas who encouraged them not to make a fuss about the increase in egg prices.

According to IKAPPI, the Trade Minister should have sought a solution so that egg prices could fall.

Chairman of the IKAPPI Central Executive Board (DPP), Abdullah Mansuri said that the problem of rising egg prices had been going on for the last few weeks.

Abdullah said, the price of eggs was initially IDR 27.000 per kilogram (kg), then increased to IDR 29.000, then IDR 30.000 and even now it is up to IDR 32.000 per kg.

"In our opinion, this is the highest price in the history of the last 5 years the Ministry of Trade has worked," he said in a written statement quoted on Thursday, August 25.

Therefore, Abdullah hopes that problems in the field from food to distribution can be resolved by the Ministry of Trade under the leadership of Zulkifli Hasan.

"Such as the issue of food, laying eggs, distribution issues are issues that have to be focused on, not running away from problems," he said.

IKAPPI also asked the Ministry of Trade to make further efforts, not only making statements that would actually create a commotion. Abdullah suggested Zulkifli Hasan to gather large breeders or large breeders in order to find a solution.

Furthermore, Abdullah said, by gathering the breeders, the Ministry of Trade could find out what steps should be taken in the future to overcome the problem of rising egg prices.

Moreover, said Abdullah, eggs are a commodity with a large enough demand. Therefore, if the price is high then it becomes a problem.

He also hopes that the Ministry of Trade can resolve the egg problem in the shortest possible time.

"It's not actually saying that there is too much supply and we shouldn't make a fuss. This noise is because there are screams from mothers that continue to flow to us, so we inevitably have to push the government to find a solution," he explained.
