About Portuguese Tourist Dies In Accident On Mount Rinjani, Sandiaga Uno: Traveling Must Be Fun, Safe, And Comfortable

JAKARTA - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno emphasized that traveling should be fun, safe, and comfortable by complying with standard security operating procedures.

"SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) must be met with a responsible attitude by oneself and the environment, and must follow directions and regulations in tourist destinations," he said in The Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Tuesday. 23 August.

On Friday, August 19, a tourist from Portugal named Boaz Bar Anam was reported to have had an accident falling into a 150-meter ravine on Mount Rinjani and died.

According to the Head of the Mount Rinjani National Park (BTNGR) Dedy Asriady, the position of the victim fell on the northwest slope or direction of Lake Segara Anak, Mount Rinjani. The victim was registered to climb through the Sembalun entrance on August 18, 2022.

Before the incident, the victim took a selfie from the edge of the cliff at the top of Mount Rinjani. Due to the lack of attention to safety factors, the foreign national had an accident at around 05.30 Eastern Indonesian Time (WITA).

"The victim fell from a height of about 150 meters causing the victim to die on the spot. Meanwhile, two of his colleagues have been brought down by a guide via the Bawak Nao Sajang route, Sembalun," said Head of Search and Rescue (SAR) Mataram Nanang Sigit.
