Visited By The Head Of The ADB Institute From Japan, Sri Mulyani Admits To Speaking Seriously About This Issue

JAKARTA - Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani is known to have just received an official visit from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Institute led by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sonobe-Dean.

During the meeting, the Minister of Finance explained that the government and the Japanese think tank shared information about many things.

"I express my appreciation for ADBI's attention to the issue of education, which is one of the sectors affected by the COVID-19 pandemic," he said via his Instagram account @smindrawati on Monday, August 22.

According to the Minister of Finance, one topic that is of particular concern in the agenda of this meeting is environmental issues. He said the Government of Indonesia expressed a strong commitment to continue development in line with aspects of nature conservation.

“We also discussed the energy transition. I convey that the priority of developing countries is to ensure that electricity supply is evenly distributed and affordable for all of its population. Currently, efforts to encourage energy transition in developing countries are constrained by a trade off between ensuring these two things and a commitment to reduce carbon emissions with the consequence of rising electricity prices," he said.

The State Treasurer also said that both parties agreed that technology provides many opportunities and opportunities to reduce carbon emissions.

“However, the application of this technology costs money. To that end, we must ensure that the costs of implementing this mechanism can be reduced. Hopefully this effort can be implemented immediately so that we can overcome the problem of climate change as early as possible,” he said.

For information, the ADB Institute is a research/study institution formed by the international financial organization Asian Development Bank which focuses on issues of education, welfare, and the environment.

In the editorial review, the Government of Indonesia (including the central bank) was recorded to have received a number of loans from ADB with a total liability of 10.3 billion US dollars at the end of June 2022. This value is lower than the position in May 2022 which was 10.6 billion US dollars.

"I also hope that in the future the relationship between Indonesia, especially the Ministry of Finance and ADBI will be stronger and more solid," closed the Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani.
