BINTAN - The Acting Regent of Bintan Riau Islands (Kepri) Roby Kurniawan released the export of 9.5 tons of processed frozen fillet fish for grouper and snapper species to Brisbane, Australia.

Roby appreciates and feels proud because usually the export process for processed fish has to pass through neighboring Singapore, but now these export commodities can be sent directly to the destination country using containers.

He hopes that the export of processed fish in the future can be sustainable and grow. Moreover, Bintan as a maritime area, is so rich in natural fishery resources.

"Hopefully, the export of processed fish will penetrate to other countries, not only Australia," said Roby after releasing the export of processed fish produced by PT. Bintan Diamond Gemilang in East Bintan District, Riau Islands, reported by ANTARA, Saturday, August 13.

The Bintan Regency Government, he continued, strongly supports the export policy of fishery products in order to boost economic recovery due to the pandemic. In addition, of course, it can create jobs for the local community.

Meanwhile, the owner of PT. Bintan Intan Gemilang Dina said the company has been operating since 2018, with an average monthly export of processed fish products reaching two 20-foot containers.

According to him, the 9.5 tons of exported snapper and grouper processed commodities are the catches of traditional fishermen from Bintan who are carried out directly by local workers from the Riau Islands region.

"90 percent of the workforce here are native to the Riau Islands. The processed fish commodity products that we make have also been able to compete with Vietnam and Singapore, so we can export directly to Australia's destination countries," he said.
