JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto in particular expressed his appreciation for automotive manufacturers who are increasingly aggressively releasing electric vehicle products in Indonesia.

This was conveyed by him when he opened the 2022 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) event in South Tangerang.

According to Airlangga, the positive response shown by business actors is in line with the government's steps to provide special incentives for each electric vehicle.

"The government has issued incentives through PP Number 74 of 2021 and PP Number 73 of 2019 concerning Taxable Goods Classified as Luxury in the Form of Motorized Vehicles Subject to Sales Tax on Luxury Goods," he said in a press statement quoted Friday, August 12.

Airlangga added that this year's GIIAS is the right exhibition for electric vehicles and has proven the most compared to previous years.

"I think there are relatively more electric vehicles (EVs) this time compared to previous GIIAS exhibitions. I appreciate it, congratulations," he said.

Airlangga said that the policies and subsidies are believed to be able to make the price of electric vehicles competitive with conventional oil-fueled vehicles.

The government, he continued, also encouraged PLN to prepare an ecosystem for electric vehicles through electric charging stations.

"We continue to encourage PLN to create more charging station ecosystems so that people can easily choose EVs, which are currently starting to be able to compete in the price range of IDR 200 million to 300 million," he said.

In fact, he continued, the government is optimistic that Indonesia can become an exporter of vehicle products abroad. Currently, automotive products from Indonesia have been exported to more than 80 countries in the world.

"This is proof that Indonesia's manufacturing capability continues to improve," he said.

On the same occasion, the Chairman of the Exhibition Organizer Rizwan Alamsjah admitted that GIIAS 2022 indeed made electric vehicles one of the main focuses. In fact, visitors can also try electric vehicles directly during the exhibition which lasts 10 days starting today until August 21, 2022.

"To introduce the public to the various advantages of electric vehicles, we have prepared a special area that is used as a test track," he said.

For information, GIIAS 2022 is packed with 11 four-wheeled vehicle brands that have stated that they will participate in the indoor EV test track program, namely, DFSK, Fuso, Hyundai, KIA, Lexus, MG, Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan, Porsche, Toyota, and Wuling.

In addition, there are four brands of two-wheeled vehicles that will join, namely Alva, Pacific E-Series, Segway, and Selis.

"GIIAS 2022 also presents the latest technology and products from a total of 25 brands of passenger and commercial vehicles," concluded the Chairman of the Exhibition Organizer Rizwan Alamsjah.
