JAKARTA - Member of Commission VII DPR RI Marwan Jafar encourages the Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas) to improve performance and have execution power in supervisory duties, especially for subsidized fuel which is his responsibility.

"We hope that BPH Migas has more fangs and execution power that is serious about supervision," said Marwan Jafar as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, August 10.

He hopes that there will be directions on the use of oil and gas for the wider community, including on the impact and benefits, for example how the increase in oil and gas prices can be controlled, while in terms of income, it remains according to calculations.

"The level of public consumption also needs to be considered," he said.

Currently, he said, oil and gas prices are starting to soar, so it must be a serious concern because it affects the resilience of the nation's economy, which is currently less stable.

This condition, he said, caused people's purchasing power to decline so that BPH Migas was required to be able to provide constructive input and at the same time not burden the community.

Through the strategic role of BPH Migas, he explained, it is hoped that it will encourage other stakeholders in the oil and gas sector to think about the possibility of a transition from oil and gas to electricity.

"This is possible to be one of the breakthroughs that can be made. Because renewable energy is important to talk about considering that non-renewable energy is running low, while at present there are no potential new energy sectors," he said.

Although this is not directly the task of BPH Migas, he said, this institution can still provide input and direction to stakeholders and actors in the oil and gas sector.

He appreciated BPH Migas for providing many trainings, discussion forums, and socialization related to the role of BPH Migas to the community.
