JAKARTA - Since the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020, people's habits in transacting have changed towards digital. In 2022 alone, Bank Indonesia reported recording 21 million new consumers who transacted digitally, and 72 percent of new consumers came from rural areas and remote villages in Indonesia.

Quoting Fitria Irmi Triswati, Director of Payment System Policy at Bank Indonesia, she said that people in remote areas are now digitally 'literate' and limited infrastructure in remote and border areas also does not hinder the growth of digital transaction development.
