Bappenas Targets 1.8 Million Green Economy Sector Workers By 2030

JAKARTA - The National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) targets 1.8 million workers in the energy, electric vehicles, land restoration and waste sectors by 2030.

"The Green Economy Index is Indonesia's real manifestation in measuring the effectiveness of a sustainable and low-carbon economic transformation with an accurate methodology. Arifin said the government would make the Green Economy Index one of the macro development targets and include it in the medium- and long-term national development planning documents.

The Green Economy Index itself consists of 15 indicators covering three pillars of sustainability, namely environmental, economic, and social.

According to the Green Economy Index report, efforts to transition to a Green Economy can provide various benefits for Indonesia, including an average GDP growth of 6.1-6.5 percent per year until 2050, 87-96 billion tons of greenhouse gas emissions that saved in the 2021-2060 range, up to a 68 percent reduction in emission intensity in 2045.

In addition, Gross National Income (GNP) is higher in the range of 25-34 percent, equivalent to 13,890-14,975 US dollars per capita in 2045.

In the environmental sector, 40,000 lives will be saved from reducing air pollution by 2045, restoring ecosystem services worth US$4.75 trillion per year by 2060, 3.2 million hectares of primary forest protected by 2060, and additional forest cover of 4.1 million hectares by 2060. 2060.

Efforts to transition to a Green Economy, said Arifin, will also have an effect on increasing the area of mangrove forests to 3.6 million hectares by 2060 and increasing the resilience of the economic climate.
