JAKARTA - Deputy Chairperson for Environment and Forestry at the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Indonesia, Silverius Oscar Unggul, said that he was ready to support the government's serious efforts to create Indonesia's FoLU Net Sink 2030.

"One of the actions to support Indonesia's FoLU Net Sink is to preserve forests to contribute to Indonesia's climate change control for the world," said Silverius Oscar Unggul as quoted by Antara, Monday, August 8.

Silverius said, in supporting the creation of Indonesia as the first country for Forestry and Other Land Use (FoLU) Net Sink in 2030, his party has disseminated related strategies and plans for implementing climate change mitigation actions from the forestry industry sector to companies engaged in the forestry sector.

"It is hoped that these companies will carry out a zero net hub for reducing GHG emissions that have been determined nationally, as well as to synergize and implement various existing program activities related to climate change in Indonesia," he said.

In addition, in its commitment to support the creation of the FoLU Net Sink, there needs to be an active role for local governments in their participation.

"In addition to the Central and Regional Governments, companies are also expected to play an active role in their participation to encourage the acceleration of Indonesia's FOLU Net Sink 2030," he said.

He said, Indonesia's FoLU Net Sink 2030 is a condition to be achieved where the level of absorption of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the forestry sector and land use in 2030 is expected to be balanced or even higher than the emission level.

In addition, the forestry sector has the largest portion in the target for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, which contributes about 60 percent in meeting the carbon neutral target or net-zero emission.

"Public socialization of Indonesia's FOLU Net Sink by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry to companies, members of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has been carried out through a Webinar on June 14, 2022 yesterday," he said.

Furthermore, he said, the follow-up to the public socialization of Indonesia's FoLU Net Sink will create a sustainable serial agenda with a series of activities carried out by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry such as scientific studies related to agroforestry, non-timber forest products, and ecosystem and environmental services.

"These studies will become data documents that will later become directions for companies that will implement net zero emissions," he said.

Kadin Indonesia also coordinates with both the government and members of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry to voice and socialize the FoLU Net Sink 2030 agenda.
