JAKARTA - SOE Minister Erick Thohir entrusts Indonesia's future to 2,700 new SOE employees so that they can continue to encourage economic growth and national development considering that a third of Indonesia's economy is driven by SOEs.

Erick Thohir said that merging the recruitment of all SOEs together is the first program that aims to make every young generation of SOEs successors get to know each other.

According to him, the joint recruitment also encourages transformation because the success of BUMN is born from the culture and character of each individual in it, both leaders and all employees from young to old.

"Many transformations fail because the business model is just a blueprint. In fact, the most important thing in transformation is the development of human character," said Erick Thohir.

Furthermore, he conveyed the foundation for character building of AKHLAK which is now instilled and applied from an early age through the state defense program, which aims to make new employees of SOEs have togetherness, high fighting power, and also understand the main tasks and functions of working in SOEs.

He revealed that working in a state-owned company is not easy because they have to ensure that SOEs are always healthy considering that SOEs contribute one third of the economy in Indonesia.

"BUMN must be a balance when there is a gap. We must be able to intervene when a market is disrupted, we must dare to compete with global companies," said Erick Thohir.

He advised the new employees of BUMN to keep state-owned companies healthy. If SOEs are sick, he continued, SOEs are unlikely to be able to intervene and maintain the balance of the national economy.

Erick Thohir entrusts the BUMN transformation program to new BUMN employees so they don't get stuck with trophies for themselves and vilify the previous leadership. Programs that are already good must be continued and programs that are not good are stopped.
