PLN Builds First Transmission Tower In The Kalimantan Sea

JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) has built six tower foundations for the 150 kiloVolt (SUTT 150 kV) Selaru - Sebuku High Voltage Air Line transmission network. The construction of this tower in the middle of the sea is the first in Kalimantan.

This step was taken by PLN to optimize the supply of electricity without having to disrupt the activities of the waters of ship traffic.

General Manager of PT PLN East Kalimantan Development Main Unit (UIP KLT), Josua Simanungkalit explained that PLN built 6 tower foundations, of which 3 towers are special towers with a height above the standard tower to accommodate ship traffic in the waters of the Sebuku Strait.

"During this visit, we want to ensure that the quality of construction from the foundation to the construction of the tower is in accordance with predetermined specifications," said Josua in a statement to the media, Tuesday, August 2.

He added that the construction of the foundation for the 6 towers (T.82 - T.87) was full of challenges. Tides and erratic weather are certainly a serious concern in the construction, especially during foundation construction work.

"With these obstacles, we advise job executors to prioritize aspects of Occupational Safety and Health (K3) and aspects of Electricity Safety (K2)," he said.

Head of the Port Authority and Port Authority Office Class III Kotabaru-Batulicin, Agus Sularto, also supports the construction of the strait tower on the 150kV Selaru - Sebuku SUTT line for the common good.

"With the permission to cross the waters by the Director General of Sea Transportation, technically the construction of the Selaru - Sebuku SUTT is safe for shipping activities in the Sebuku Strait," said Agus.

Overall, the progress of the 150kV SUTT construction which spans 74.92 kilometers of the circuit (kms) has reached 67.45 percent by the end of July 2022. PLN also appreciates the role of all parties, especially the community and companies that cross the transmission line.
