JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Finance Suahasil Nazara stated that the government is currently looking for new sources of growth after the COVID-19 pandemic in order to create a sustainable and stronger economy.

"We have to look for new sources of economic growth after the pandemic. Of course, we cannot escape the trends in emerging markets and internationally," he said at the Mid-Year Economic Outlook 2022 event in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, August 2.

Suahasil said that the effort to find new sources of economic growth should not be separated from the current trend so that it could at the same time anticipate potential future crises.

Several trends that become potential sources of new growth are the existence of a new normal lifestyle, a new trade and investment map, awareness of the green economy, including energy and food security.

He said the government had begun to prepare policies that could encourage this new source of economic growth, especially for energy and food security.

"We are ready to think about this and arrange the policies needed to maintain Indonesia's energy and food security because it is one of the sources of new economic growth," he explained.

Several supporting tools that the government has also prepared in seeking new sources of growth are technology, adoption of new technologies, revitalization of high value-added industries, development of new and renewable energy (EBT) and a green economy.

This is in line with the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto who said that the Job Creation Law could be a tool to find new sources of growth.

In addition, the government also continues to encourage downstreaming, digitize, encourage a green economy, and achieve the target of eradicating extreme poverty by 2024 while utilizing the Investment Management Agency (LPI) or Indonesia Authority Investment (INA).

"We encourage this so that sustainable development can run," said Airlangga.
