Realizing Sugar Self-Sufficiency, ID Food Boosts Production To 400,000 Tons In 2025

JAKARTA - Holding State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Food, ID Food will boost sugar production to 400,000 tons by 2025.

This is in line with the government's goal to achieve self-sufficiency in sugar consumption in order to meet national needs.

President Director of Food Holding ID Food, Frans Marganda Tambunan said the need for national consumption of sugar reached 3.2 million tons, of which the current local production figure is 2.3 million tons so that local production is still being boosted by around 850,000 tons to strengthen national sugar needs. .

Frans said this was also in line with what was mandated by the Minister of SOEs, Erick Thohir, that SOEs could be part of the realization of self-sufficiency in consumption sugar. Given this is part of food security.

"Of the 2.3 million tons of national sugar produced by BUMN, around 1.04 million tons, namely the contribution of ID Food and PTPN Holding, ID Food itself produces around 250,000 tons, per year. This means that the contribution to national production is around 11 percent generated from three The subsidiaries are PT PG Rajawali I, PG Candi Baru, and PT PG Rajawali II with six sugar factories currently actively operating," he said as quoted on Saturday, July 30.

As for boosting the contribution to national sugar production, Frans said, ID Food will open up opportunities for synergy with the private sector so that it is expected that by 2025 ID Food will be able to contribute production of up to 400,000 tons.

"Some of them will be synergized with PTPN Holding so that the consumption deficit of 850,000 tons of sugar can be fulfilled," he explained.

Frans also revealed that the strategy taken to achieve this production is to complete some homework (PR) related to the provision of land or improvement of upstream food for sugar cane raw materials, so that the availability of raw materials is sufficient.

"To produce 250,000 tons of sugar, it is met from 43,000 ha of sugarcane fields, most of which are in partnership with farmers and around 13,000 ha is from land owned by RNI / ID Food, so that in the future the synergy of sugarcane land with sugarcane farmers will be increased to 60,000 ha with a note making improvements in the area. on farm to off farm," he said.

From these improvements, continued Frans, of course it is hoped that the resulting yield can increase to 8.6 from the current 7.3.

To achieve all the steps in supporting the strengthening of sugar, SOEs are currently forming an ecosystem among agricultural business actors called the SOE Synergy Prosperity Program.

So that they can collaborate in realizing food self-sufficiency, especially sugar.

Frans said other supporting factors to support sugar self-sufficiency include providing a warehouse receipt system facility that can be used by farmers, ranchers, and fishermen when they harvest.

"So this warehouse receipt system is to help our farmers if there is a failed auction or the price falls down," he said.
