JAKARTA - The Financial Services Authority noted that the number of Jambi residents' loans on online loans (pinjol) until May 2022 reached Rp 103.21 billion.

Funds of Rp103.21 billion came from 84,684 lending accounts.

Seeing the high interest of the Jambi community regarding this loan, the Jambi OJK educated the public regarding the purpose of P2P lending funding to provide capital for start-up MSME businesses, especially unbankable MSME actors.

"We always remind the public to avoid illegal loans or moneylenders," said Jambi Province Financial Services Authority (OJK) Head Yudha Nugraha Kurata as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, July 26,

Yudha added that socialization was done through public service advertisements, both through mass media and social media.

In addition, he continued, efforts to protect consumers through the work team of the Investment Alert Task Force, both at the central and regional levels.

Meanwhile, Public Relations of the OJK Jambi Province, Agus Setiawan Wibowo, asked the public not to borrow money from illegal lending institutions.

The reason is, there are still many people who have been borrowing from illegal loans.

"Because at this time what is called digitalization is very sophisticated, so information about this loan targets anyone, especially gadget or smartphone users," said Agus.

He explained that financial literacy, especially related to legal loans, has not yet reached the wider community, so many people try to register for loans without checking their legal status first.

"Don't let many get trapped in 'digging a hole and closing a hole' with other illegal loans," said Agus.

Agus added that the total loan of Rp 103.21 billion came from legal loans recorded at the OJK.

"One person can have more than one account in several loan applications, we always remind the public to borrow at legal loans. Every education material is always embedded with this loan-related material, basically every effort is made to make people understand about formal finance, including this loan from the application Consumer Protection Portal. If we sort the complaints from Jambi, there are quite a lot," he explained.
