The Ministry Of Finance Says The Number Of Taxpayers Has Increased Significantly Since The Reform, Touching 42.51 Million

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) stated that the number of taxpayers has increased significantly since the first tax reform was carried out in 1983 until now.

"If we look at it, since the first tax reform was carried out, the number of taxpayers in 1983 was still around 163,000, while now it is in the range of 42.51 million," said Expert Staff of the Minister of Finance for Tax Compliance Yon Arsal in an official statement in Jakarta, Antara. , Monday, July 25.

At that time, Yon said that Indonesia's tax system was changed from an assessment system to a Tax Law (UU), which occurred in the period from 1991 to 2000. After implementing bureaucratic reform, the Ministry of Finance carried out tax reform volume I during 2002 to 2008.

Next is the tax reform volume II in 2009-20014 and institutional transformation in 2014-2016. Furthermore, in 2016-2019 bureaucratic reform and institutional transformation were carried out, in 2017 there was a tax reform program, as well as the Reform of the Tax Administration System (PSAP) and the Reform of the Tax Administration Core System (PSIAP) or core tax in 2018-2024.

However, he regrets that in general the trend of Indonesia's tax ratio has decreased significantly since 2011, so it can be interpreted that the ratio of tax revenue to gross domestic product (GDP) is still not optimal.

However, the downward trend is still considered dynamic when taking into account Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP), a natural resource that is very sensitive to changes in commodity prices.

Therefore, Yon emphasized that tax optimization is still the main objective of fiscal policy. Thus, the tax improvements made by the government in the future cover the policy and administration side.

"So from these two sides, we see that our tax ratio is still quite challenging. Then on the one hand we certainly see that there are policy choices that we take in order to encourage economic growth," he said.
