Moeldoko: The National Economic Condition Is Relatively Good Compared To Other Countries

JAKARTA - Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko stated that the Indonesian economy is relatively good in the midst of the global economic situation which is currently not doing well due to rising prices of energy and food commodities in foreign markets.

"I want to convey to the public that global environmental conditions are indeed not good, and our national economic condition is relatively good because our growth is still quite high compared to other countries," said Moeldoko as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, July 25.

Moeldoko cited data on Indonesia's economic growth in the first quarter of 2022 which reached 5.01 percent (year on year/yoy). Then, Indonesia's inflation is still under control.

This is different from the consumer price index in several other countries, which soared due to fluctuations in global commodity prices.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia's inflation until June 2022 is 4.35 percent (yoy).

Moeldoko said the government is working hard to control commodity prices in the domestic market, so it doesn't affect inflation and people's purchasing power.

"Among them, yesterday's oil price was still unstable and Alhamdulillah now it has stabilized," he said.

According to a Bloomberg survey, said Moeldoko, Indonesia has a small risk of 3 percent to enter an economic recession.

"Bloomberg has even estimated, ranking several countries up to 15 countries that have economic risks going to the worst," he said.

Moeldoko's statement was in response to the survey results of the Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI) for the period 27 June-5 July 2022. The LSI survey results showed that 64 percent of respondents were satisfied with the performance of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

The level of satisfaction from the survey decreased slightly compared to the previous LSI survey, which was 67 percent.

"So if there is an assessment like that now, people see that there are some commodities that are rising, but the government is already working to reduce it," said Moeldoko.

Details, the results of the LSI survey for the period 27 June-5 July 2022 are 64 percent of respondents are satisfied with the performance of President Joko Widodo, then 13.5 percent of respondents are very satisfied with the President's performance, and 50.5 percent of respondents are quite satisfied.

Furthermore, 27.2 respondents said they were not satisfied, 5.9 percent said they were not satisfied at all, and 2.9 percent said they did not know or did not answer.
