CENTRAL BANGKA - Farmers in Central Bangka are encouraged to implement the true shallot seed (TSS) technology system. This system is believed to increase the production of shallots.

Central Bangka Regent, Algafry Rahman said the TSS system is a potential alternative technology to be developed. He added, this technology is a hatchery system using botanical seeds.

"To get quality onion seeds," said the Regent of Central Bangka as reported by Antara, Sunday, July 24. "This is in an effort to overcome the seedling of shallots with the use of botanical seeds or TSS."

According to him, the advantage of using TSS technology is that it can increase tuber growth, compared to a vegetative system that uses tubers as seeds.

"Another advantage of TSS is that it is not susceptible to disease and the need for shallot seeds is less," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Central Bangka Agriculture Office, Sajidin, said that his party had prepared a five-hectare land for the pilot development of TSS technology.

"We have prepared five hectares which are managed by farmers in groups, some have started planting and some have even harvested nine tons per hectare and that is a pretty good production," he said.
