JAKARTA – Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto held a virtual meeting with the American Chambers of Commerce in Indonesia (AmCham).

On the occasion, Airlangga said that AmCham was interested in discussing the development of the new National Capital (IKN).

"They are enthusiastic about getting information on the progress of IKN work for the 2023-2024 period," he said in a press statement on Wednesday, July 20.

Airlangga himself conveyed several developments in the construction of water storage infrastructure and other major physical infrastructure.

“The government already has a master plan for the IKN development project which will be presented to the public at the next opportunity. It is hoped that the US private sector can participate in the development of the IKN by referring to the master plan," he said.

For information, AmCham is a trade organization for entrepreneurs from the United States (US). In Indonesia, the organization is similar to the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry or Kadin.

Furthermore, Coordinating Minister Airlangga said, if AmCham appreciates the support of the Indonesian government for the business world, which has been felt the benefits so far.

"AmCham Indonesia's business actors support collaborative efforts that can be taken to contribute to the national economic recovery and increase Indonesia's competitiveness, amid global challenges such as the food and energy crisis and geopolitical tensions," he said.

Listening to various inputs from AmCham Indonesia business actors, Airlangga also provided an explanation of the energy transition mechanism, the global food crisis and market access that has the potential for collaboration with business actors.

“The utilization of geothermal energy is currently in the exploration stage, and the financing is supported by the government and state-owned enterprises. It is hoped that it will also get support from the private sector, including US-owned private banks," he concluded.
