JAKARTA - Property developer belonging to the late Eka Tjipta Widjaja conglomerate, Sinar Mas Land, has again collaborated with tycoon Prajogo Pangestu's company, PT Chandra Asri Petrochemical Tbk (TPIA). This collaboration was marked by the signing of the MoU which was carried out on Wednesday 13 July in BSD City.

The signing was carried out by FX Sidi Widagdo as the proxy for the board of directors of PT Bumi Serpong Damai Tbk and Edi Rivai as Director of Legal, External Affairs, & Circular Economy Chandra Asri. The cooperation is carried out for the application of asphalt with a mixture of 3.8 km or 56,138 m2 plastic plastic waste which will be implemented in BSD City.

This program aims to provide new value for plastic waste that is part of the asphalt mixture in the context of infrastructure development and improving road quality as well as implementing the circular economy concept as an effort to preserve the environment. The construction of this road infrastructure will be carried out from July 18 until the end of 2022.

Sinar Mas Land continues to transform BSD City into a smart city. One element that is of primary concern is sustainable and environmentally sound development. This effort was carried out by Sinar Mas Land with Chandra Asri who played an active role in encouraging the use of asphalt with a mixture of plastic waste on a national scale.

Last year, both companies were successful in applying asphalt with a mixture of plastic waste in the West area of BSD City with an area of 15,518 m2 and managed to manage the equivalent of 5.37 tons of plastic waste from the landfill.

Sinar Mas Land's Chief Risk & Sustainability Officer, Muhammad Reza Abdulmajid explained, Sinar Mas Land focuses on providing innovative solutions in environmentally sound development.

"We believe that Chandra Asri has sufficient competence and technical knowledge to support the process of recycling plastic waste into asphalt mixture in order to produce roads with better and longer lasting resilience. The application of plastic asphalt in BSD City is the company's effort to support sustainable development and empower communities around our development area towards the application of a circular economy model," said Reza in his written statement.

Chandra Asri's Legal, External Affairs & Circular Economy Director, Edi Rivai said, "After successfully collaborating on the implementation of the first plastic asphalt in the BSD City area last year, we are delighted to be partnering with Sinar Mas Land again to continue this initiative.

"The extension of this collaboration is in line with our commitment to become a reliable growth partner in realizing the best solution for sustainable plastic waste management through the circular economy concept. We will also continue to proactively encourage partnerships and multi-stakeholder participation in the construction of plastic asphalt as an effort to overcome waste problems, especially plastic waste, in Indonesia," explained Edi.

Since 2018, Chandra Asri has implemented asphalt with a mixture of plastic waste through the Plastic Asphalt program for Indonesia Asri together with other stakeholders. So far, Chandra Asri and his partners have made a total of 50.8 km of roads with plastic asphalt and 282 tons of plastic waste that has been successfully managed from the landfill.
