JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) stated that the entire presidential secretariat, starting from the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Bogor, Cipanas, Yogyakarta, to Tampaksiring, was already using 100 percent electricity from renewable energy.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said the presidential secretariat had just signed the purchase of a renewable energy certificate or REC equivalent to 849 megawatt hours (MWh).

"REC is an instrument offered by PLN to customers who need recognition of the use of renewable energy," he said as quoted by Antara, Monday, June 27.

Darmawan explained that through this agreement, the two presidential palaces located in the State Capital, namely the Merdeka Palace and the State Palace, will follow the presidential palaces in areas that have previously switched to environmentally friendly electricity.

According to him, the income from this renewable energy certificate is allocated for the addition of new renewable energy plants to achieve the carbon neutrality target by 2060.

He revealed that the REC service issued by PLN since November 2020 is increasingly in demand by various customers, not only business owners in the business and industrial sectors to meet their export needs, but also attract the attention of managers of public facilities and the public.

The Bogor Presidential Palace was recorded to be the first to subscribe to REC services in March 2022. Then, it was followed by the Tampaksiring Presidential Palace and the Yogyakarta Presidential Palace in May and June 2022.

Head of the General Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat of the Republic of Indonesia, Erry Hermawan, said that the entire presidential secretariat was 100 percent using renewable energy as of June 1, 2022.

According to Ery, this step is proof of the government's commitment to supporting efforts to develop renewable energy to overcome environmental problems.

"This is to overcome fossil energy which is increasingly limited. In addition, this step will also support green energy to overcome environmental constraints, especially in Indonesia," concluded Ery.
