JAKARTA - The government will supply cooking oil for Rp. 14 thousand per liter in supermarkets and minimarkets to ensure and make it easier for people to buy basic commodities cheaply.

"If it is packaged properly, the price is written at Rp. 14 thousand. If it is packaged, the market will be wider, it can be entered in supermarkets," said Trade Minister (Mendag) Zulkifli Hasan after visiting the East Jakarta Klender Market, quoted from Antara, Wednesday June 22.

Currently, the bulk cooking oil program for Rp. 14 thousand per liter or Rp. 15 thousand per kg can only be obtained at shops or food stalls that have been determined by the government.

Currently there are 13,968 shops or food stalls that work together to distribute cooking oil for Rp. 14 thousand per liter. Trade Minister Zulkifli said the number would continue to grow.

The Minister of Trade, who is familiarly called Zulhas, said that his party is currently in the process of producing simple packaged bulk cooking oil at a price of Rp. 14 thousand. The packaged cooking oil will later be distributed in supermarkets and minimarkets so that more people can reach cooking oil for Rp. 14,000 per liter.

"In bulk, shops such as minimarkets don't want to sell, but if they are packaged, they will. So there will be more. So pray for two weeks, God willing, Rp. 14,000 of oil is everywhere, it won't be an issue anymore, because it's already well available," said Trade Minister Zulhas.

The Trade Minister said that the government prepared 300 thousand tons of cooking oil per month for the cooking oil program of Rp. 14 thousand per liter. This amount is still more than the total consumption needs of people's cooking oil per month.

He said that currently the production process of simple packaged cooking oil is in the stage of issuing a distribution permit from the Indonesian POM. After the distribution permit is issued, producers can immediately produce simple packaged cooking oil.

The simple packaged bulk cooking oil which is sold at a price of Rp. 14 thousand per liter is under the brand Oil Kita.

Based on observations at a number of minimarkets in Jakarta, the price of packaged cooking oil ranges from Rp. 23 thousand to Rp. 25 thousand per liter. With the presence of packaged cooking oil at IDR 14 thousand per liter, people can switch to more affordable products.
