JAKARTA - BRI's Padang branch synergizes with the local Land Transport Organization (Organda) to create a non-cash payment system using the Indonesian Standard Quick Response Code (QRIS) application to pay public transportation costs.

"Using QRIS to pay for public transportation costs, drivers no longer need to hold cash and prevent fraud," said Padang City Organda Secretary Yan Heri in Padang, Tuesday, June 14 during the socialization of non-cash payments with BRI Padang, as reported by Antara.

According to him, this program also makes drivers more practical because they don't need to prepare change for passenger fare.

Organda Padang supports this program because it is time for a change in the payment of public transportation fares following technological developments.

"Moreover, people no longer hold much cash, especially the younger generation," he said.

He said that currently there are around 2,200 angkot units in Padang and only 1,000 units operating with 20 routes.

He saw that with QRIS, in addition to making it easier for the public to make deposits from drivers, they were also more transparent to owners.

To pay for angkot fare using QRIS, passengers simply scan the barcode that has been installed and then pay using BRImo and their own Digital Wallet such as Gopay, Shoppe Pay, Ovo, Link Aja and other barcode scanner features.

Meanwhile, Consumer Business Manager of BRI Padang, Mury Wijaya, said that using QRIS to pay for angkot is one of the latest breakthroughs in the non-cash payment system because it can be monitored directly by angkot owners.

He said that currently only 10 angkots have served fare payments with QRIS and today there are 40 more applications for implementation.

"Gradually it will be installed in all angkots and at an early stage as a pilot," he said.

For angkot drivers who want to apply for payments using QRIS, the conditions are quite easy because only by opening a BRI account will then be given a barcode that is affixed to the angkot.
