JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) is collaborating with the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) regarding the Implementation of Search and Rescue. In this case, Basarnas will try to support the operation of the Jabodebek LRT

The cooperation was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by KAI President Director Didiek Hartantyo and Head of Basarnas Marshal TNI Henri Alfiandi at Hotel Borobudur, Jakarta, Wednesday 8 June.

KAI and Basarnas are committed to supporting and succeeding in the assignment of the Jabodebek LRT in anticipating and handling emergency events in the Jabodebek LRT operation.

The scope of this MoU includes cooperation in the field of sharing data and information, handling emergency conditions and handling accidents in the operation of railways through search and rescue activities, search and rescue exercises, utilization of resources, and capacity building of human resources.

Didiek said, ahead of the operation of the Jabodebek LRT which will have a soft launch on August 17, 2022, one very important aspect is safety.

For that, said Didiek, KAI took the initiative to approach Basarnas to jointly build the operational readiness of the Jabodebek LRT so that its safety is maintained. This step is also a form of KAI's commitment to build a proactive safety culture.

"This collaboration with Basarnas is not only in preventive efforts, but also in conditions if contingency action is needed. The Jabodebek LRT is operated all above, elevated, so we must maintain the level of safety more than ordinary trains," he said.

Currently, the progress of the Jabodebek LRT has reached 82.7 percent. Later, the Jabodebek LRT system will be operated automatically using GoA 3. So that KAI will continue to carry out safety measures such as a series of tests, checks, and periodic maintenance by competent personnel and supervised by experts in their fields.

"We really hope that this safety culture, both at KAI and its subsidiaries, can continue to be built and together we convey that KAI is ready to continue to adapt to maintain the safety of sustainable rail transportation," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Basarnas, Marshal Madya TNI Henri Alfiandi, said in his speech that the first possible access to the location in the event of an emergency is by air, which can be reached by helicopter.

"With the addition of a helicopter fleet, Basarnas will be better prepared to provide SAR services in the event of an emergency on the Jabodebek LRT train line," he explained.
