JAKARTA - PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI has succeeded in expanding the market share of lending to foreign countries. Recently, the government-owned financial services institution is known to have succeeded in channeling people's business loans (KUR) to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) who market their products to Turkey.
BNI Corporate Secretary Mucharom said that Turkey is Indonesia's trading partner country whose trade value increases linearly every year.
"The Ministry of SOEs and BNI hope that they will not only optimize market potential but also contribute to increasing economic cooperation," he said in an official statement related to the company's move to bring 50 products from its assisted MSME partners at the Turkish Senggol Market Festival, Tuesday, June 7.
According to Mucharom, his party has the mandate to bring local entrepreneurs to go global. Therefore, this effort can attract the attention of business people as well as Indonesian and Turkish consumers so that further cooperation can be made.
"Through assistance from the Indonesian Consulate General, we also received a link and match program so that we can focus more on preparing goods that enter the Turkish market," he said.
On the same occasion, the Indonesian Consul General in Istanbul Imam As'ari said BNI has an important role as an aggregator of Indonesian MSMEs to penetrate the Turkish market.
"Of course, the presence of state banks can support the provision of financing products as well as be proactive in holding various business meetings to increase MSME penetration in the global market," he said.
Imam added that BNI can also be active in supporting various festivals from the diaspora in Turkey to be able to create a stronger business network.
"The total number of Indonesian diaspora in Turkey is still very small, around 6,000 people. But it should be noted that the business network of this diaspora is very strong and BNI can take advantage of it," he said.
Similarly, MSME players who market their products in Turkey, namely Helmi Suana, admitted that BNI played a role in encouraging MSMEs to be able to improve their capabilities and business quality to achieve maximum performance.
"We are very grateful because BNI gave us the opportunity to participate in many market development programs, especially by participating in various festivals, including in Turkey," explained the Founder of Faber Instrument Indonesia.
To note, the total trade between Indonesia and Turkey throughout 2021 was recorded at 2.01 billion US dollars. From that figure, Indonesia was able to record a net exporter surplus of 1.2 billion US dollars. Meanwhile, Turkey's economic growth last year was said to be at the level of 11 percent on an annual basis or year on year (yoy).
