JAKARTA - President Director of PT PLN (Persero) Darmawan Prasodjo said the virtual holding company will begin to form in the near future.

"It is currently in the process. What is certain is that it will be virtualized in the near future," he said when met at his office, Tuesday, May 31.

Darmawan added, next year PLN and the Ministry of SOEs will only carry out the legal and state holding process for SOEs.

"The point is that the legal and state will be carried out next year, that's the direction of the Minister of SOEs, hopefully this collaboration will run smoothly," added Darmawan.

According to SOE Minister Erick Thohir's plan, there will be a holding and two subholdings formed by the SOE Ministry.

It aims to strengthen the service and electricity business carried out by the state company.

The first is the subholding that creates a business unit outside of electricity transmission in this case is 'Beyond Kwh'.

While the second subholding is a power plant subholding that will focus on power generation, both coal and renewable energy, such as solar, hydro and geothermal power.

Erick said that many neighboring countries do not have this natural wealth, so of course, apart from PLN, being a company with a strong foundation in providing electricity services in Indonesia, it is not impossible now that several hydropower projects have also been sold to Malaysia.

However, this is a measurable consolidation.

"Why do many countries see the potential of renewable energy in Indonesia, this is one that we want to work on together but not stand alone. PLN itself will still focus on transmission and also the return of electricity properly, and of course we encourage this whether it's called digitalization in serving the community so that it is right on target," said Erick Thohir as quoted from Antara, last Monday 9 May.

Erick added that the holding and subholding that the SOE Ministry did at PLN was actually similar to Pertamina.

When Pertamina now has healthy subholdings, they are not interdependent.

"There is no overlap between the power plant and PLN Coal, which is a subsidiary of PLN to provide quality coal in the supply of electrical energy," he concluded.
