JAKARTA - Head of the Industry and Trade Office of Batam City, Gustian Riau, said that the increase in the price of chicken eggs in traditional markets in the area was the impact of rising prices for chicken feed.

"Regarding eggs, there has been an increase due to the increase in poultry feed. We contacted the distributor one day ago, so they sold them when they arrived in Batam for IDR 50,000 per board," he said, quoted by Antara, Thursday, May 26.

So far, the supply of eggs in Batam is from local farmers in Barelang and Medan. However, with the increase in the price of chicken eggs from the two regions, the local Disperindag will seek supplies from distributors in Payahkumbuh.

"So the next step is other areas outside Medan, namely Payahkumbuh which we are currently bridging to be able to supply eggs in Batam, at a slightly cheaper price," he said.

The problem that occurs to local Barelang breeders, as well as the city of Medan, is the increasing price of poultry feed.

Disperindag will hold a meeting with local Barelang breeders to determine the amount of feed needed and will meet the supply from Pekanbaru Riau.

"We have also asked in the near future to collect them on Monday, all the chickens in Barelang how much feed they need, we will supply them from Pekanbaru Riau, related to eating the chicken," he said.

The price of chicken eggs at traditional markets in Batam still varies, ranging from Rp. 50 thousand to Rp. 53 thousand per board with the contents of 30 eggs, for a bunch of five boards it costs Rp. 250 thousand, and for small packages containing 10 items, starting from Rp. thousand per pack.

"Eggs are now IDR 50 thousand per board, before going up to now it was IDR 46 thousand per board," said a chicken egg trader, Mulyanto.
