Pegadaian Opens Voice About Copyright Infringement Lawsuits Savings Gold: We Follow The Applicable Legal Process

JAKARTA - PT Pegadaian responded to the news about the lawsuit of a resident named Arie Indra Manurung to the Central Jakarta Commercial Court for alleged infringement of the copyright of the Gold Savings service owned by the company.

PT Pegadaian Vice President of Corporate Communication Basuki Tri Andayani said he had heard the news and the company was studying the lawsuit.

"We have received the lawsuit file and are being studied carefully. As a company that upholds the principles of GCG, we will follow the applicable legal process and comply with government regulations and other legal provisions. In addition, we are also committed to protecting consumer rights, so that there are no customer losses," he said in a written statement, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, May 17.

The operation of the Gold Savings Pegadaian product itself has received permission from the OJK with letter number S-427/NB.11/2016 dated 17 February 2016 regarding the Gold Savings Pawnshop product after being officially launched by President Jokowi on 5 July 2015.

The product was launched to meet the demands of low-income people who want to have gold the easy way.

Finally, a gold savings product was found that provides a solution with a buy and deposit model of gold that can be accessed by the public with a minimum purchase of 0.01 grams.

Against the backdrop of efforts to reorganize the pawnshop industry, OJK issued POJK 31 of 2016 dated 28 July 2016 concerning Pawnshops.

As a state-owned company that complies with regulations, Pegadaian has also restructured its business, one of which is the establishment of a subsidiary, Galeri 24, which handles the gold business.

Then, the company applied for an operational license renewal for the Pawnshop Gold Savings product which was granted by the OJK with letter number S-476/NB.111/2019 dated October 9, 2019 regarding the approval of PT Pegadaian (Persero) Gold Savings Products.

As a government institution, the existence of gold that is saved is physical, stored by Pegadaian in a special place.

Periodically, gold deposits are audited by independent auditors, so you can be sure that every gram of gold saved has a physical presence and is insured.

"With the legality of the products owned by the company, the public is asked to remain calm and not be affected by developing issues. In line with the AKHLAK culture, we will always be trustworthy in maintaining the trust of the government, the community and other stakeholders," said Basuki.

The lawsuit against Pegadaian was registered with case number 40/Pdt.Sus-HKI/Cipta/2022/PN Niaga Jkt.Pst which was registered on 10 May.

Arie Indra Manurung sued Pegadaian with a lawsuit amounting to Rp322.5 billion. In his lawsuit, Arie called the party who first created the investment system and the sale and purchase of gold/precious metals called "Goldgram".
