JAKARTA - Strengthening data and economic diplomacy are the keys to realizing the agenda of promoting and encouraging open, fair, predictable and transparent food trade at the G20.

As stated by the Deputy Director of the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef) Eko Listiyanto. "This momentum is the time to see how, in the context of encouraging internal food trade, Indonesia must strengthen data and research," said Eko, quoted by Antara, Sunday, May 15.

The Indef economist added that outside Indonesia, it is necessary to build cooperation with commodity-producing countries in the G20, such as with Turkey or other countries.

"Regarding the commodity trade, the G20 itself is actually a development of the cooperation of the G7 developed countries. With regard to commodities, it actually has a strategic role, if we want to contribute to this discourse, of course there is a connection with the WTO," he said.

To encourage fair and transparent commodity trade, a fair or fair policy must first be enacted.

Eko said that in order for Indonesia to be able to encourage global commodity trade to be more transparent and fair, data and economic diplomacy were needed.

"Actually, the key factor that makes developed countries win is because with data and cooperation networks between countries, they can prove and be able to push their agendas related to commodity trade," said the Indef economist.
