The Ministry Of Energy And Mineral Resources Is Optimistic That Indonesia's Electrification Ratio Can Be 100 Percent By The End Of 2022

JAKARTA - The government targets the electrification ratio (RE) in all parts of Indonesia to reach 100 percent by the end of 2022. By 2021, the figure has been realized at 99.45 percent, while the village electrification ratio (RDB) is at the level of 99.62 percent.

The data was conveyed by the Director General of Electricity at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Rida Mulyana, in a written statement to the media, Thursday, May 5. Rida said RE is a reflection of energy access in Indonesia.

In addition to the electrification ratio, the government has set a target for the new and renewable energy mix (EBT) of 23 percent by 2025. "By the end of 2021, the portion of NRE has reached 14 percent in the energy mix for power plants," Rida explained.

Indonesia's commitment, continued Rida, towards a clean energy transition is projected to fully implement decarbonization in 2060 or sooner.

Several policies that have been implemented by the government include no additional coal-based power plants except those that are already contracted or under construction.

Furthermore, there is the addition of power plants from EBT-based sources. "We are currently having an additional 21 Giga Watt (GW) of additional renewable energy power plants in 2030. From this target, we already have 11.1 GW of electricity," said Rida.

In addition, Indonesia has also implemented a policy of converting diesel-fueled power plants into EBT plants, such as the Solar Photovoltaic PLT which will produce around 1 GW of cleaner energy.

There is also increasing network connectivity to mobilize NRE sources to demand centers and accelerate electrification through a new electricity access installation program.

"We have electrified more than 192,000 low-income households that currently do not have direct access to electricity," said Rida.

Through this policy breakthrough, Rida hopes to be the first step towards a more sustainable energy future for Indonesia.

"I hope that Indonesia and other countries can learn together in achieving universal energy access and a clean, just and sustainable energy transition," said Rida.
