JAKARTA - Pertamina NRE and Pondera Development BV (Pondera) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the development of wind power plants (PLTB) in Indonesia.

The signing was carried out by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pertamina NRE Dannif Danusaputro and Eric Arends as Vice Chairman of the Pondera Group. This agreement is part of Pertamina NRE's initial steps to expand its green energy portfolio, one of which is through the development of PLTB.

Through this memorandum of understanding, both parties agreed to focus on collaborating in the development of PLTB in several areas. The collaboration includes strategic, technical and commercial cooperation.

"The potential for wind power in Indonesia is quite large. We view this potential as a very good opportunity for Pertamina NRE to expand its clean energy portfolio while supporting the acceleration of the energy transition in Indonesia. Pertamina NRE is very enthusiastic about this strategic collaboration because Pondera has experience in PLTB development especially in Europe," said Dannif in his statement to the media, Friday, April 22.

He revealed, as a consultant and developer of global renewable energy, Pondera has a wealth of experience in developing wind energy projects onshore and offshore in Europe and in Asia.

The experience of this Dutch company includes wind measurement, feasibility studies, wind modeling, PLTB engineering, and construction management.

"Until now, Pondera has handled wind energy projects of more than 12 GW in various countries," he explained.

He further explained that Indonesia has a large enough potential for wind energy. Based on the results of a study by the Research and Development Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (KESDM), there are several locations in Indonesia that have the potential for PLTB development, including the southern coast of Java Island, South Sulawesi, Maluku, and NTT, with an average wind speed of 8 m/s occurs in the period June, July, and August.

"Currently, the PLTB that has been operating in Indonesia is 75 MW in Sidrap and 60 MW in Jeneponto," he continued.

Both are located in South Sulawesi Province. Based on the National Energy Mix (BEN), PLTB is targeted to reach 255 MW by 2025.

"With this strategic partnership initiative, Pertamina NRE has the opportunity to contribute to the achievement of the Indonesian Government's BEN target," he concluded.
