JAKARTA – Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Margo Yuwono reported that in March 2022 Indonesia's exports to various world countries were recorded at 26.50 billion US dollars.

"Exports in March are the highest in Indonesia's history," he said when meeting the media crew online on Monday, April 18.

According to Margo, there are important factors that made Indonesia able to achieve this glorious result.

"The increase in Indonesia's exports was driven by high commodity prices, so there was an increase in prices," he said.

Margo added that the export book in March 2022 was higher than February 2022 which amounted to US$ 20.47 billion, and also from March 2021 which amounted to US$ 18.35 billion.

In detail, the Head of BPS explained that last month's export structure was contributed by non-oil and gas commodities with 25.09 billion US dollars and oil and gas commodities with 1.41 billion US dollars.

"The most exports are types of fuel and minerals (HS 27), iron and steel (HS 72), and vegetable/animal fats and oils (HS 15)," he said.

Meanwhile, by country, China is still Indonesia's main export destination with a trade value of 1.75 billion US dollars. Then followed by India with 628.2 billion US dollars, and the United States with 439.9 billion US dollars.

In terms of imports in March 2022, it was US$21.97 billion. This result made Indonesia print a trade surplus of 4.53 billion US dollars last month. This condition also extended the record trade balance surplus to 23 consecutive months.
