JAKARTA - The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) continues to control food stocks in 34 provinces in Indonesia, especially when entering the holy month of Ramadan 1443 Hijri.

The Minister of Agriculture, Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL), has given responsibility to every Echelon II official in the Ministry of Agriculture, to handle two to three provinces.

"Each official has responsibility for two or three provinces," said Minister of Agriculture SYL in Makassar, Saturday.

He revealed, every official who is responsible for the specified province, is obliged to report existing developments to the Director General in charge. Regular meetings will also be held every week, to see existing developments.

"Every week, I directly control. Which areas are red, which are green. Only those who talk are red zones, what is the problem there, what is the solution," he said.

One of the control measures taken, continued SYL, is to send commodities from surplus areas to areas experiencing deficits.

"Shallots, for example. Because Central Java has a surplus, send them to Maluku, Papua and Jambi, which have problems with shallots," he explained.

Minister of Agriculture SYL also instructed his officials to go to the field to check directly. Don't just wait for a report behind the counter.

"Go downstairs, check. Don't just stay in the office receiving reports. If there is criticism, don't fight it by talking. Answer by showing our work," he said.
