JAKARTA - The price of cooking oil in North Gorontalo Regency, Gorontalo Province, reached Rp. 29 thousand per liter in premium bottles.

"I was quite surprised by this sharp increase in prices. However, I had to buy it because the price of cooking oil did rise significantly," said Suci (32) a resident of Molingkapoto Village, Kwandang District, in Gorontalo, quoted from Antara, Saturday, March 26.

He admitted that he found the price at a daily grocery store in the area.

Meanwhile, the price of bulk cooking oil in a number of stalls and traditional markets is sold for Rp. 30 thousand to Rp. 33 thousand per 1.5 liters in bottles of used mineral water.

The price increased from the range of Rp. 25 thousand to Rp. 26 thousand with the same size.

Head of the Department of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives (Disperindagkop) and North Gorontalo MSMEs, Hasan Hiola, said his party continues to monitor the availability of stocks and movements in cooking oil prices.

The local government hopes that, he said, cooking oil stocks are safe until the month of Ramadan 1443 Hijri later.

His party will also carry out market operations for assistance from the provincial government by distributing cooking oil at a subsidized price of Rp. 14,000 per liter.

"We get a quota of 125,000 liters for each distribution to underprivileged residents and SMEs in this area. The condition is that residents are asked to show their Identity Cards (KTP) so that the distribution is evenly distributed," he said.

The first stage of distribution has been carried out in Kwandang and Anggrek Districts.

"There is still a next stage of distribution for other sub-districts. We hope to reach all target residents," he said.

Market operations also apply to other basic commodities, such as sugar, eggs, rice, including cayenne pepper, whose prices fluctuate from Rp. 60 thousand to Rp. 70 thousand per kilo gram.

He hoped that the public would remain calm and not take wholesale action so that the spike in food commodity prices would remain stable.

"We will continue to monitor the availability of supplies for this area until the Idul Fitri holiday," he added.

So far, the increase in the price of spice commodities seems to have increased for shallots and garlic, from Rp. 37,500 per kilo gram to Rp. 40,000 per kilo gram.

The price of tomatoes began to rise from IDR 5,000 per kilo gram to IDR 7,000 per kilo gram.
