PLN Ready To Distribute 800,000 MWh Of EBT Electricity To 6 Big Customers Such As H&M, GoTo, Toyota, To The Bogor Presidential Palace

JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) signed a power supply agreement with six major customers and the industrial sector, namely H&M Indonesia, PT Goto Gojek Tokopedia, PT Stargate Mineral Asia, PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia, PT Georg Fischer Indonesia, and the Bogor Presidential Palace. .

This electricity comes from new renewable energy (EBT) through the purchase of a Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) of 800 thousand megawatt-hours (MWh).

President Director of PLN, Darmawan Prasodjo, said that the signing of the REC purchase contract is a clear proof of collaboration for the transition to renewable energy. This is also in line with Indonesia's commitment as the host of the G20 to reduce global carbon emissions.

"REC is the most important instrument in reducing emissions. This collaboration is clear evidence that the industrial sector plays an extraordinary role in the transition of renewable energy," he said.

This agreement, continued Darmawan, is proof that PLN has realized cooperation in fulfilling electricity from EBT-based plants. He explained that the REC purchase contract with a cooperation duration of 1-5 years would also have a positive impact on customers.

"Customers get a procurement option to fulfill the target of 100 percent use of NRE that is transparent and internationally recognized and without spending investment costs for infrastructure development," he said.

Not only that, customers also prove their existence in contributing to reducing carbon emissions by using energy from renewable energy plants in Indonesia.

The REC purchase contract also has an impact on the government which is pushing for the energy transition to carbon neutral 2060. It is hoped that the massive REC purchase contract can encourage the growth of the national renewable energy market so as to accelerate the achievement of the energy mix target.

"We are very open to other companies who want to contribute to the use of green energy by utilizing this REC," he said.

On a separate occasion, Country Manager of H&M Group Production Office Indonesia, Frank Blin Gonsalves stated the company's commitment to contribute to fighting climate change, which does not only rely on the line of operations, but throughout the H&M Group value chain, including in Indonesia.

"H&M Group continues to work closely with the Indonesian government and our business partners to provide new solutions and encourage the use of EBT-based power sources in our supply chain," he said.

Frank added that the REC agreement between H&M, supplier partners and PLN is an important step to realize the company's ambitions as well as support the government's agenda towards Indonesia Net Zero Emission in 2060.
