JAKARTA - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif today converted 1,000 electric motors. In his remarks, Arifin said that this program was implemented by cooperating with automotive workshop SMEs and vocational students.

"This program in addition to developing upstream to downstream industries, we are also working with MSMEs," said Arifin at the Conversion Ceremony of the Fuel-Driven Motorcycles to Electric Motors in Jakarta, Thursday, March 17.

The reason is that there are 120 million units of motorcycles spread throughout Indonesia, thus requiring MSMEs automotive workshops in the regions that will assist the process of converting fossil fueled motorcycles to electric fuel.

"We will share this knowledge with other MSMEs throughout Indonesia so that the process can run smoothly and more and more people are using motorcycles with electric fuel," said Arifin.

Arifin added that the government is also focused on implementing the downstream policy. This is to increase the added value of mineral resources in Indonesia which aims at the welfare of the community.

So far, the downstream industrial sector has had a broad impact on the national economy, including the addition of foreign exchange earnings and employment.

"If we can make batteries and transmissions, God willing, the motorcycle industry in Indonesia can achieve 100 percent TKDN," he said.

For information, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has launched a pilot project for a conversion program of 100 units with 10 types (types of motorcycles) on August 17, 2021.

The conversion process follows the Minister of Transportation Regulation No. 65 of 2020 concerning Conversion of Fueled Motorcycles into Battery-Based Electric Motorcycles. The electric motorbike has passed the 10,000 KM endurance test for 48 days by traveling uphill, downhill, traffic jams in both rainy and hot conditions.

The executor of the conversion service or modification of the implementation of this conversion program is P3TKEBTKE, which has obtained an Authorized Workshop certificate for the Installation, Maintenance and Inspection of Electric Motor Drive System Installation Equipment on Motorized Vehicles from the Directorate General of Land Transportation, Ministry of Transportation on 30 June 2021.

The official workshop is located at the P3TKEBTKE Office Complex, Jalan Pendidikan No. 1 Pengasinan, Gunung Sindur, Bogor Regency.
