JAKARTA - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) continues the conversion of 1000 units of fuel-driven motorcycles into electric motors. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif targets the conversion of as many as 13 million motorcycle units by 2030

"The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources continues to encourage the Battery-Based Electric Motorized Vehicle Program (KBLBB), as part of the energy transition to realize cleaner, more efficient energy use, reduce fuel imports, save foreign exchange and save fuel subsidies," he said in his remarks at the Conversion Program Ceremony. Arifin said that if the electric vehicle target is achieved, it will provide the potential for reducing fuel consumption by 6 million KL per year and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 7.23 million tons of CO2e.

"In order to further encourage the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia, in 2022 we plan to increase the conversion program to 1,000 motorcycle units with the target of operating motorcycles for SOEs and Regional Governments," he said.

In general, in increasing the use and utilization of KBLBB, the focus of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources includes the readiness of electricity supply, construction of installations for Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) and General Electric Vehicle Battery Exchange Stations (SPBKLU) and affordability and electricity tariff incentives for KBLBB.

This has been regulated in the ESDM Ministerial Regulation No. 13 of 2020 concerning Provision of Electric Charging Infrastructure for Battery-Based Electric Motorized Vehicles, which is currently in the process of being revised in order to increase the effectiveness of its implementation, encourage investment participation and involvement of the private sector.

"Increasing the use of electric vehicles must also be supported by the provision of clean energy-based electricity, for that we are also targeting in 2030 the capacity of renewable energy generation to reach 31.4 GW with the construction of new EBT plants in PLN's Green RUPTL 2021 - 2030 of 20.9 GW. ," continued Arifin.

Minister Arifin also appreciated all parties who have contributed greatly to the implementation of the Conversion Program for Fuel-Driven Motorcycles to Electric Motorcycles, which in 2021 has successfully implemented a pilot project for 100 units of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources official motorbikes.

"The success of this pilot project is expected to be a trigger for implementation in other Ministries/Institutions, Regional Governments, BUMN, private sector and the community so that the use of electric vehicles becomes more massive and more affordable while opening up opportunities to work through MSME conversion workshops and increasing the production of local components. encourage the KBLBB ecosystem nationally," said Arifin.
