JAKARTA - Indonesia is promoting the natural wonders of Komodo Island as one of the seven newest natural wonders in the world at the 'Nation with Wonders at Expo 2020' event held at Expo 2020 Dubai.

Director General of National Export Development of the Ministry of Trade and Commissioner General of the Indonesian Pavilion Didi Sumedi said the Komodo Island exhibition at Expo 2020 Dubai is a sign that Indonesia has special tourism potential, not only Bali, but spread throughout the archipelago.

"Expo 2020 Dubai is an extraordinary opportunity to showcase Indonesia's best destinations to attract more and more people to visit Indonesia," said Didi as quoted by Antara, Saturday, February 19.

Didi said that the Expo 2020 Dubai event was a momentum for Indonesia to introduce potential in the fields of trade, tourism and investment opportunities.

The promotion of Komodo Island at Expo 2020 Dubai is in line with the Indonesian Government's program to intensify the promotion of Super Priority Destinations (DSP) by introducing tourism to grow the creative economy ecosystem.

One part of the DSP is Labuan Bajo which is famous for Komodo Island as a national park for the Komodo dragon's natural habitat.

Komodo Island with its Komodo National Park was selected as one of the seven newest natural wonders through the New 7 Wonders Foundation in 2012.

In addition to being the original habitat of the oldest ancient reptile species in the world, Komodo Island has an area that is still naturally preserved. This is what makes Komodo National Park chosen as the New 7 Wonders of Nature after being voted by 500 million people from all over the world.

"We hope that through the 'Nation with Wonders at Expo 2020' event, exhibition visitors can get to know more about Indonesia's Super Priority Destinations, especially about Komodo National Park which was chosen as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature," said Didi.

The launch of the Komodo Island marker at the Outdoor Stage of the Indonesian Pavilion was attended by the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Dubai, Kartika Candra Negara and the Founder-President of the New 7 Wonders Foundation, Bernard Weber.

“Out of hundreds of millions of votes, people from all over the world have voted and encouraged us to inaugurate the New Seven Wonders. By doing so, all of the participants have also created what I call a Global Memory, which are seven things that everyone can and will remember in the future," Weber said.

Weber said it was a symbol of unity that respects and celebrates cultural and natural diversity.
