Conglomerate Chairul Tanjung Brings Good News For Ready To Inject Capital Into Garuda Indonesia, Erick Thohir: We Are Very Open

JAKARTA - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir responded to news that conglomerate Chairul Tanjung is ready to inject capital into Garuda Indonesia. He said that basically the Ministry of SOEs is very open to cooperation with various parties, in this case national entrepreneurs.

"We are very open to cooperation with various parties in ensuring that this national flag carrier can run well," he said in an interview with CNBC, quoted on Saturday, February 19.

However, said Erick, in the context of Garuda, the initial stage was PKPU. After there is a foundation or restructuring framework, then we can talk about adding capital or developing.

Even so, Erick emphasized that the spirit is the same, namely the government also wants to ensure that Garuda as a national flag carrier can run well.

"But it can't be reversed directly talking about it (additional capital). This is a national flag carrier, the government also has concerns and also wants to make sure this flag carrier can run well," he explained.

Moreover, said Erick, Garuda Indonesia is also very much needed to help stabilize logistics. This is because Garuda is now not only transporting people but also goods or logistics.

"This system of goods is important. Because our logistics costs are still 26 percent high compared to other countries, which are 13 percent. This is what we are trying to share in our vision," he said.

To save Garuda, Erick Thohir has collaborated with the Attorney General's Office. This clean-up effort is expected to be a solution for Garuda.

"The role of the Prosecutor's Office is to ensure that the BUMN clean-up program is the solution for the future, how can Garuda run. Don't let us talk later but there is no legal umbrella," he said.

Previously, CT Group through PT Trans Airways planned to inject capital into PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk (GIAA). Currently, the ownership of the company owned by the conglomerate Chairul Tanjung in Garuda is 28.26 percent.

Chairul Tanjung, who is the Chairman of CT Corp, said that the additional capital will be carried out after the debt restructuring process for Garuda Indonesia is completed.

"When the restructuring process is complete, later we plan to add more capital to strengthen capital. Later in the plan to increase capital, we will also cooperate with strategic investors," said Chairul Tanjung, Tuesday, January 11.
