JAKARTA - The national airline Garuda Indonesia signed a strategic partnership with the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia. This collaboration is part of the company's commitment to strengthening the focus on safety (security) based on aviation health governance.

The collaboration is related to the Implementation of Academic Activities, Training, and Health Services in the Field of Aviation Medicine with the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia which was carried out by the Director of Human Capital of Garuda Indonesia, Arya Perwira Adileksana and the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. dr. Ari Fahrial Syam, Sp.PD-KGEH, MMB on Thursday, February 17 at the Garuda Indonesia Training Center (GITC).

President Director of Garuda, Irfan Setiaputra, said that through this collaboration, Garuda Indonesia and the University of Indonesia agreed to work together to maximize the potential of each entity.

These include organizing academic activities and training, especially in the field of aviation medicine at the Garuda Indonesia Training Center (GITC) and the Garuda Sentra Medika (GSM) Clinic for pilots, cabin crew and GSM health workers, to the implementation of health services in GSM by students of the Faculty of Medicine. University of Indonesia and the teaching staff of the UI Faculty of Medicine.

Irfan assessed that this collaboration with the University of Indonesia is a form of strategic collaboration between aviation industry players and academics in the health sector. With this collaboration, it is hoped that it will be able to maximize efforts to optimize safety aspects in Garuda's operational lines through the management of mitigating health risks for flight crews.

Furthermore, Irfan said that the presence of medical sciences which continues to develop along with the challenges faced and technological sophistication, the Aviation Medicine Study Program at the University of Indonesia also answers the needs of the aviation industry. This is because this study program is relatively new and also very rare because currently its position in Asia is the only one.

Irfan explained that with the presence of educators from the UI Faculty of Medicine, it was hoped that they would be able to increase the competence and level of safety of the flight crew and doctors at Garuda Indonesia.

"In terms of emergency situations that may be faced, it is in line with our commitment to providing safe and comfortable flight services for all our service users," he said.

Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. dr. Ari Fahrial Syam, Sp.PD-KGEH, MMB expressed his appreciation to Garuda Indonesia for supporting the development of the Specialist Medical Education Program, Faculty of Medicine UI, especially the Aviation Medicine study program.

Ari said that the willingness of GITC and GSM as educational fields in accordance with the qualifications needed by FKUI will help create aeronautical medicine specialists who are competent in their fields.

"Of course, with the experience gained directly by the aviation medical students, it is hoped that they will be able to create superior Human Resources (HR) according to their respective specialists," he said.
