People From Guangzhou China Will Enjoy Mangosteen Fruit From Purwakarta

JAKARTA - Mangosteen fruit produced from plantations in Purwakarta Regency, West Java, can be exported to Guangzhou, Shanghai, China.

"Alhamdulillah, mangosteen as a superior commodity typical of Purwakarta can now penetrate the international market. So far, we have exported to several ASEAN countries, one of which is China," said Karawang Regent Anne Ratna Mustika on the sidelines of the release of mangosteen exports to China in Purwakarta, quoted from Antara, Tuesday February 8th.

He said the mangosteen fruit is a typical plantation product in Purwakarta which is very promising from an economic point of view. Even now it has global competitiveness.

According to him, the Purwakarta Regency Government will continue to encourage the productivity of this mangosteen plantation to continue to increase, both in terms of quality and quantity.

To strengthen quality, one of the efforts is to provide guidance on Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) and Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) to farmers.

"In terms of quantity, we continue to encourage how to increase productivity so that domestic and export needs can still be met," said the Regent.

He said that currently there are 158,000 mangosteen trees, 96 percent of which have been registered. That is, it fulfills for export.

He said the mangosteen from Purwakarta has now been registered with the Ministry of Agriculture as a superior variety.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Horticulture at the Ministry of Agriculture, Prihasto Setyanto, said the current export destination to China is about 3.5 tons of mangosteen, packaged in 500 boxes. Each box is about 7 kilograms.

According to him, in 2022, the mangosteen fruit is the prima donna for exports. Overseas, the mangosteen is called the "Queen of Fruit" and the durian fruit as the "King of Fruit". So the queen is mangosteen and the king is durian.
